Senior Pastor Roy Sommerville
Roy has been married to Belinda fo5 over 40 years and the Lord has blessed them with 4 children and 5 grandchildren with another on the way. Roy was born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he worked at the world famous Harland and Wolffe Shipyard, and the builder of the great ocean liner, Titanic. Roy likes to point out that there was nothing wrong with it when it left the dry dock in Belfast. He immigrated to Canada in 1979, where he became an apprentice Tool and Die Maker and had to learn how to speak the Queens English in a way that he could be understood. He met the Lord Jesus Christ in November of 1980 and has been grateful for that day ever since, and considers it the smartest choice he ever made. The second smartest was marrying Belinda in 1985. He has never regretted either decision ever since.
Roy got his education at Central Baptist Seminary, Tyndall Theological Seminary, University of Waterloo and has a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Canadian Theological Seminary in Regina. He began full time ministry as a Youth pastor at Fellowship Baptist Church in Markham, Ontario in 1986. He started a Church planting work in the Malvern area of Toronto in 1990. And began his current ministry at Queensway Baptist Church in 1999.
Roy loves the Lord Jesus Christ more than life itself. He considers preaching and teaching the good news of the Gospel and the Scriptures to be the greatest privilege in the world. And preaching to the faithful folks at Queensway Baptist church for 27 years, he considers a double blessing.
He considers that his life's work, in the words of the Apostle Paul, is to be "in labour until Christ be formed in you."
